I really hope this isn't the only update for Disgaea 3 this month. It's not that I don't enjoy a prinny with a red muffler, it's just... not all that spectacular to just get a sprite change for a prinny as a new character. Hmn. Well, anyway. Today was the release date for Prinny : Can I Really Be the Hero!!? in Japan.

To commemorate the release, the prinny will be the DLC content for this month! Uh, yay! More on this when... I find out more!
Last month's was a bit predictable and then... not so much. So we'll see.

Also, a new trading card game was released in Japan for Disgaea! It features art from Disgaea 1 ~ Disgaea 3.

That is a long title.
I got to play the demo today. I forgot I had to charge up my PSP, hahahahaha. After that was done and the updated was placed, I tried out the stage in the demo. It's very cute! I really enjoy the background drawings and the sprites. I seem to have a problem with dying all of the time though. Jumping is also rather difficult, but it may be because I'm used to jumping in like, Disgaea 3.

Other than that, I ordered Makai Senki Disgaea 3 DASH!! from BK1 this week. Hopefully I'll be able to get it soon.

+ Work work work.
+ I finished Disgaea 3 last week, good ending is good. I'm tempted to try and get the bad ending in English (I managed to get it in Japanese after an hour of killing my own party members) but I do not know if I want to subject Mao to that mental abuse.
+ I've been trying to draw at work, it's proving itself difficult. I'm currently taking graduate classes at the beginning of the week, but I might cut back on those if they're too much... we'll see, we'll see.

In other news, lets talk about the new PSP prinny platformer game, Prinny ~I'm the main characer, dood?!

I quite like how the main prinny has a red scarf, every main character in Nippon Ichi games has to have something... red on them in order for them to be a true main character. Whether it's hair or the popular scarf... either way, it'll be released for the PSP in November in Japan. I hope we get to see this come out in the US some time.

Problem with Disgaea 3

Sometimes, I have to wake up at 5 am to take someone to work.
I usually go back to bed, seeing how I have to go to work myself at around 10 am.

With Disgaea 3, this poses a problem.
Do I take a few hours to level up a little before work?
Or do I just go ahead and take a nap?

Man, those trips to Class World seem really tempting right now. I need to reincarnate all of my characters, boost their mana... mmmm, leveling...

As much as I have been anticipating the English release of Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice... I don't have much time to play. I started graduate school this week and as expected, it is rather intensive. On the plus side, I've graduated from regular student to... research student! Huzzah! I'm going to be inputing numbers!

Right. Disgaea.

This plucky player is currently at the end of Chapter 2. Slowly yet steadily, she moves forward in an attempt to replay in English! I've set the game to English voice acting so I can listen to the voice work, but I dreadfully miss Hirata Hiromi as Mao. I can always switch back to her on my second play through, and believe me, I'm playing through the game again afterwards. I don't know if I want to try for the worst ending again or not... it still makes me sad to watch.

Anyway, Spoilers beyond this point.

Mao is so emotional. I already knew this, but seeing it and hearing it in English just so... weird! Haha. Almaz is definitively more cynical than I remember, and Raspberyl is so cute! I'm glad I can understand her better now. Her way of talking in Japanese just threw me off.... anyway!　So, Chapter 1 details Mao coming to the conclusion that Heroes are necessary in order to defeating Overlords and through the insistent pushing of Geoffrey, he goes off to ... find a hero to capture and experiment.

So enters Almaz. Poor guy. You have to wonder what horrible things Mao does to him in his sleep.

So uh!
I got my first ending!
I went ahead and died to Raspberyl in Chapter 2 to see her ending. She runs off with Almaz, leaving Mao a broken demon! Really, how did Geoffrey let this happen? Did Mao just become a horrible shut in after Raspberyl totally showed him up?

An interesting thing to note is that Demons seem to really age at a steady, amplified rate to Humans. I figure that Mao and Raspberyl are 1578, so that means they're edging towards the age of "16" in human years, but it seems that the average life span (normally) for them is roughly the same for humans. (... Just, you know. Proportionally speaking.) Raspberyl passes away in her sleep at 10,100 something years old, which translates to being about 101? Surrounded by her children and grandchildren... she was certainly busy in her life. *laughs*

Uh. Currently I'm leveling Mao normally. Blade rush + ice magic, but I really want to switch him to a mage once class world starts up. I'm probably going to spend hours playing there than the actual story. Noooo. -A-

My highest leveled character si my healer. That. How does that work? She's using a bow right now, I don't know if I'll ever get to change her to being an uber mage but..! I'll do my best! GO BEATRIX.

I promised myself that this would be the first game I would get to 9999 on a character. I'm shooting to get Mao, Almaz, Beatrix, and Marionette to 9999. Can I do it?! .. Probably not, but I can try.

Yeah, I think it's another novelization for the game. I believe it's taken from Almaz's point of view. Judging from the cover, people might think Disgaea 3 is a harem game, which I'm totally okay with.

Adell's cameo in Disgaea 3. You have to download it (after purchasing it) from the Japanese or Asian Playstation Store if you have the Japanese/Asian versions of Disgaea 3.

I'm sure these downloads will be available in English. Ooh! Adell. I figured it wouldn't be voiced, but man... playing the game without any voice acting feels really.. really weird. I love the voicework in these games, it is absolutely spectacular. Oh Adell, you'll learn that when Mao starts drooling and Almaz flinches that's never a good thing for you.

Also, an English interview with Souhei Niikawa was posted recently. He talks about his aspirations and thoughts for Disgaea 3 and it's American release. I met with Mr. Niikawa a few weeks back, he's an absolutely incredible person. I wish him luck in the future. :)

There isn't too much new content if you've browsed the Japanese Website, but there is an official translation of the story, plus information on the characters. I'm very surprised that I wrote the names of the characters right on the first try. I wasn't sure if Sapphire's last name was Lordknight or Rhodonite. (Rhodonite : A pink to rose-red mineral, essentially a glassy crystalline manganese silicate, MnSiO3, used as an ornamental stone. ala Answers.com ) I was surprised to see Almaz's full name correlated too. Ahh

I'm a little sad though!　"The Five" story characters in Disgaea 3 are Mao, Almaz, Raspberyl, Sapphire, and Champloo. Geoffrey/Jiiya is a supporting character... oh well. I'm sure they'll update with new information soon enough. I'm slightly terrified to actually be able to read what Mr. Champloo says when he talks about cooking and cryptic messages.

Uh! Either way, I'm super super excited! August is only two months away, I- I have a bad feeling I'll never finish any other game at this rate. (Ah, to be fair, I have been trying to beat Tales of the Abyss.. after a full year of not playing it. Two full years? No, it can't-... maybe.)

Ron : I also use Big Star, I just forget to list him sometimes (oops!) I'm hoping to use Salvatore when I get her, so I want to use Mao, Almaz, Salvatore, Big Star, and Marona. I use Sapphire as a back up healer, and I haven't had a chance to properly level up Raspberyl or Champloo-sensei yet. (Which sucks, because I know Champloo-sensei can be very top-tier!)

I've been slacking due to work and the will to draw. I'll try to get back into grinding soon~!

Asagi Cameo

I keep getting asked to translate this, it'll take some time before I do a proper one, since I have to go to work tonight and have a date at the planetarium. (How romantic! ♥)

Basically, in this cameo, Asagi asks 'What game is this?'
Almaz asks if something was stolen from her, from which she replies that yes, her game was stolen from her... (Mao at first thinks she's the culprit, the cameos in Disgaea 3 all have had something very important from them stolen. It's the doing of the Legendary Overlord -- which I'm assuming is Baal.)

Asagi, in an almost trance-like state, keeps repeating "My important game... I'm the main character of my game..."

Then, she attacks Mao - "My spot as the main character of the game game was stolen... BY YOU!?!??!"

[BATTLE]

After the battle, she begins crying. "I-I lost..." She wants everything to stop, she just wanted to be the main character. That's all she ever wants, why is this so hard?! (Ahh, Asagi. I'm so sorry, I feel so bad... please stop crying!!) Almaz says Mao made a young girl cry ... and then Mao and Asagi comment (I'll translate this once I get home) on each other... and Mao says that "Ah! That's it! This has to be the Legendary Overlord's doing! Yes, that's right! He stole your game!" and "Un! There is no doubt about it!"

Mao : "You'll come along, right?"

Asagi : "Really? Truly? Yes! I'll come along!"

Mao then comments on if Asagi being the main character of a game is even plausible... to which Almaz comments "Saah..." (Who knows).

With that, Asagi joins.

Sorry it's such a rough translation, I have to go to work now! I actually kind of like Asagi now, but ooh~ Mao is so nice at the end of the game. ♥ He really wants to help people out. What a good 魔王～ ♥ ♥

Disgaea 3 Ending Images

These are the images shown in the Ending Sequence of the Normal Ending for Disgaea 3. I'll update with the other images soon, I- I apologize they lack in quality. I also apologize that there's no way for me to hide these from those that don't wish to be spoiled, but I'm afraid no matter what, coming here is a big spoiler. (Even if you search on Google, you'll find my blog and the whited-out portions of the blog are visible from Google's Search. I'm sorry.)

I must say, I'm a little disappointed in the amount of images. I really wanted to see atleast one of Salvatore and Big-Star-Sama. Maybe one of the school, maybe one of Jiiya even! Ahh, but I guess the images in the other endings make up for it.

Almaz Ending + Worst Ending

If you defeat the final boss with just Almaz, you get a special ending where Mao wants to kill the final boss but Almaz steps in and says he can't. They argue, Almaz challenges Mao to a fight and...

Mao vs. Almaz
FAITO-!

You control Almaz in this battle. Mao hurts. We nearly KO'd each other at one point there...

After the battle, Mao's father watched the whole scene and decides to proclaim Almaz as the rightful heir to his throne. Almaz laughs and asks "You're joking, right?" to which Mao's father replies...

"I'm not."

Cue Almaz letting the whole idea sink in and utterly flip out.
Almaz is made Overlord.
Princess leaves him!
Mao and Raspberyl just kind of stare a bit.
Champloo seems ecstatic.
Almaz keeps crying at everyone to not leave him alone and...

The ending fades to black and credits start rolling.
The ending image is of a crying Demon Overlord Almaz with tears streaming down his face.

A+ ENDING. I kinda wish there was an ALMAZ-MODE where you could control Almaz, but sadly it just starts New Game+ Automatically. I'm going to try for Jiiya's ending tomorrow, since it meets almost the same conditions except with Mao instead of Almaz.

Worst Ending (99 Ally Kills) Cleared~
I swear, this is totally shaping up like a Kingdom Hearts plot.

The Death Toll is...

Almaz dies first. Poison.

Mao's heart dies next. Mao kills off his true feelings and goes into the Human World to destroy it. Before his death, Almaz pleads with him to stop all of this. Mao doesn't listen and even scoffs Almaz's death in this ending. Sapphire and Raspberyl are taken aback by this and...

Mao enters the human world to destroy it.
Princess Sapphire and Raspberyl fight to stop him.

Sapphire is killed.

Mao wants to kill Great Hero Aurum and Raspberyl tries to stop him. Mao tries to unleash his "darkness within" and Raspberyl hugs him to stop it.

Great Hero Aurum strikes Raspberyl down. Raspberyl is killed. This was all a part of his plan, he killed Almaz and wanted Mao to succumb to darkness and...

Mao slaughters him.

The ending of the bad end is that Mao screams and causes the human world to go up in flames.

Champloo-sensei takes a moment to reflect at how horribly wrong everything went before the screen fades black and...

That's it.

I admit, it's amazing to see how horribly wrong a situation like this can go. I have to give it to Nippon Ichi Software, they made a wonderfully well rounded game in terms of story.

No excessive ally kills, leads to Epilogue. Staff credits roll, you can start new game + by talking to the Masked Man in your base.

Jiiya Ending
In the final battle, the finishing blow must be done by Mao.
Staff credits roll, you can save, and your Dimensional Gate Keeper reverts back to Jiiya. Banzai! ♥

Almaz Ending
In the final battle, the finishing blow must be done by Almaz. SPECIAL CONDITION - He must be the only character out on the map. All other characters MUST be in your base panel. Also, it seems there's extra event battle (?)

Raspberyl Ending
Lose to Raspberyl in Chapter 2.
Staff credits roll, start over.

Hero Mao Ending
Defeat your dad's hand in chapter 1.
(Poor Almaz, he turns into a demon hobo...)

Evil Mao Ending
Chapter 7, kill more than 99 allies and watch the final scene.

I don't know if that's all you need, I haven't tested it myself. It happens in Chapter 7, after the certain scene at the end. Do you still have to fight the boss of that chapter if you get the bad end? I'm assuming so, as well as an adjacent boss battle afterwards or... something. I'm horribly curious to see what the bad end is, but I'm a little afraid to. I do still have a save file right there but... ah! I think I might cry...

Almaz's speech moves Mao and his actions and consequent scenes cause changes in both Princess Sapphire and Mao. It's amazing what one young man is capable of, to have so much of an effect on his friends.

Marona [Cameo]

I don't understand this scene at all.

Though I'm glad the focus is on Almaz, (mostly because his resemblance to Ash is extremly uncanny) I'm not sure what to think of Marona now! W-Where did she learn words like that?! I- ... I don't really... I can't really imagine Marona ever saying things like that, even as a trick. Marona is a terrible liar! うそだ！！！

She sounds like herself at the end, but that still was something I wasn't expecting...

Aha~ Sapphire taunting Almaz was pretty fabulous though. He even had to reassure her that she was the only one for him. Oh Almaz, stop talking in hearts. ♥ (Though, in all honesty. You really should stop calling her Hime-sama for a very good reason, Almaz... ) I'll be happy to get Marona on my team still, but I'm not really sure what to think about all of this. Until I get a better grasp of the situation and actually see the scene myself, this might change my view of Maronakins. Uwah... what an unexpected developement.

EDITED UPDATE : Information on the Scene makes it easier to understand, Marona's innocent heart was stolen by a legendary Overlord. Apparently that's why she's acting that way. That makes a bit more sense, to say the least... I believe the legendary overlord is Baal and if so I'm going to seriously need to kick his butt for this. M-Marona is so cute as a sweet innocent girl, not as a punk! Grr!

I've started farming for Mana so I can reincarnate Mao and start academy worlding him and Almaz. I also want to level them up in order to unlock Marona. Uwaah, Maronakins~ ♥

Almaz is behind because I was mana farming with Mao all day. Don't worry, he's going to regain his crown of "top-tier" in a bit.

I didn't sleep last night, haha.

I wrote my thoughts about the characters on my journal, I'm just going to copy and paste it here. I really should go sleep ... sometime.

Spoilers for the End of Disgaea 3

The above scene made me cry. No joke.

I want this game in English.
I admit, chapter 7 seriously made me wonder about the story. I mean, come on now. That was some weird plot twist. The final chapter made me... made me realize what amazing things these characters went through for each other. I NEVER know where to begin, but let me do my best.

Mao : Mao, from the start, I really enjoyed. During the course of the game, his cruel antics and his cold shoulder approach seriously threw me off a lot. I really wanted to like him, I thought. I really, really did. His emotions, his anger towards his father... it really made me feel bad for him. But you know, when you find out the real reason he was upset, the real problems he has locked inside... he's a good kid who misses his father. His father's been dead for 200 years, and I think he hasn't accepted that at all.

At the end of the game, he finally has a chance to talk to his dad. At that moment, it was when I realized that this was what Mao really was like. His father's been watching over him all of these years and wishes for him to be a good Overlord.

Final Title : 魔王マオ (Maou Mao) Overlord Mao.

The fact that he doesn't kill the final boss (instead STRAPS HIM DOWN TO DISSECT HIM LATER) and everyone comes to an understanding... really made the ending for me. Thank you, NIS. You somehow , somehow made this work out.

I feel that once the game comes out in English, I love absolutely love Mao.

Almaz : ... here, I know that there's no denying how much I absolutely and horribly love this character. Not only because he's Nise!Ash... he's very honest and good hearted. He's a good person, all and all. He wanted to become a hero to save the princess from getting kidnapped by the Overlord, had a rocky start with her, but he worked hard in order to save her. After he was poisoned, he told everyone he was okay. It was only when Mao was about to destroy the human world did Almaz speak up and clearly show his illness.

He believes in his friends.
He considers Mao his friend, through and through. He thanks everyone for being there for him, and... he truly deserved and earned that Hero title. Live strong, Almaz!
Raspberyl : I'll hold off on saying too much about her because I want to see her in action in English. She's very cute, I just have trouble connecting with her because I don't understand many of her lines. She's such a freak for rare characters, though! ♥

Sapphire : Okay, so at first I didn't really like her much. She was okay, you know? When I got her... she shoots Almaz. Why does she have a gun at the beginning?! Why?! That was weird... anyway! I thought it was pretty cliche'd to have Almaz get hit by the poison instead of her, but eh. It would be something he'd do. It's her fault he got poisoned though, she wanted to play with a random doll that was dropped on the ground. (Though, this was all MASTERLY PLANNED by NEGADUCK.) Anyway... when she started crying for Almaz that... that was expected. XD; I DID laugh at how she was so happy about it though, and Almaz was trying not to... be weirded out. I LOVED when she tried to CHAIN SAW Mao. That was amazing, she totally earned points for that.

Champloo : NINJA. He knows everything, understands the situations, has monologues and he seems so very wise~ I was surprised that Almaz really seems to enjoy Champloo's company. I think Champloo helps him BECOME A MANNNN (...no-not like... ) so that's good~

The Final Boss : ... I don't even know where to begin with him. I don't understand his intentions too well, so I will just leave him alone for now. I kind of wish he reverted back to Jiiya form, though. I like Jiiya form better then PSEUDO MAJIN/ZETTA Hero Guy. He wasn't a hero, Almaz is a hero! He has courage and fights for those he cares for!

Also, I took him down in like 4 turns. e_e;; Hahha. Mao was the only casualty...

Content... hahaha. It was a really nice ending. I-... Mao and Almaz are great friends. I love their interractions and I love how the ending didn't take itself seriously after everything.

Great ending theme too.
But... Harada barely drew any end images and that makes me sad. Hahaha.

Chapter 4 [END]

It's been a while, I apologize. I've been trying to get as much of the story done as possible, but I may have perhaps bitten more off than I could chew. I wasn't expecting a lot of things in this game, certainly not the depth of developement that the characters go through. Chapter 4, "The Hero Almaz" is definitively a very long and arduous chapter, but it sheds a lot of light and growth on both Mao and Almaz.

Recap of the Chapters, if you will.

Spoilers

1. Mao and Almaz's introduction. Mao knocks Almaz out, steals his title, and proceeds to go beat up his dad with it. Finding out he can't just use the title alone, they must travel to the Heart Bank and enter his heart.

2. The Heart Bank, def. a chapter I wasn't expecting. Having to enter Mao's heart and see his fragments speak to him... and to meet Mao's "true feelings" was a very interesting (albeit strange) thing to do. Seeing how Mao reacts to situations... he's really emotional. When he finds out that Almaz isn't a real hero, he dubs him ニセ勇者 (fake hero) and forever calls him that haha. Then having to go get the Dragon's Egg and meet Champloo-sensei... this game has some strange moments, indeed.

3. The PTA. What can I say? Almaz, Kyoko, and Asuka beg Mao to help Raspberyl out. After being kidnapped and having fake versions of her out ... I have no idea what the hell the PTA was trying to do in this chapter. It's very odd. \O_o/ Delicious male archers.

4. PRINCESS SAPPHIRE. My goodness, you're a violent one, aren't you? Poor Almaz~... now tell me, why do you start the game out with a gun? I - ... a gun? Sorry, you're getting an axe. That's just weird... why do Almaz and Sapphire have gun proficiencies?! It seems they're from a rather advance world, actually. I figured if there were games and anime... and Almaz knows what a plug is... huh. Almaz DOES have modern clothes, but I can't say the same for princess. I guess... when I hear 'princess' I automatically assume fantasy-esque human worlds.

Ah! Anyway! This is a great chapter (even if Almaz gets terribly abused by the princess). It shows a lot of developement for the main characters, and Almaz gives up his title for Mao's sake. I was really moved by this~ In his heart, he'll be a true hero! Good luck, Almaz! I believe in you!! ♥

I've been tinkering in the Academy World for a bit, it's actually really fun but SO VERY TIME CONSUMING. I have up to Giga Ice with Mao, he has Fire and he has Heal now, but oh man... in order to get the rest of the skills he's going to need a LOT of mana. This is going to be rather difficult... yare yare.

I'm going to take a moment to pause the game's story in order to level this weekend. I got Mao to level 40, reincarnated him, and now he's back to 28. Almaz will be next, I-... I've been neglecting my Warriors too. That's not good! I love Warriors, but Archers are so much more effective here. Don't worry, Finnegan! I won't let you fall behind!!!

Thoughts on Chapter 1

Since I'll be talking about the game after it's out in Japan, (and I've received my copy already) I won't be using spoiler white-out anymore. I will still give a warning, though.

- Mao is so emotional. I swear, if I was Almaz I would be worried.
- Asuka sounds like Castile.
- Kyoko sounds like Flonne. It's so weird.
- The pupil system seems to be gone or updated. I understand you have to transmigrate a lot now to get certain skills (they can't be bought in MAbility shops) but you CAN'T change the class of unique characters! I really don't know how I'm supposed to get Mao a skill other than Cool. I'm hoping that if I transmigrate Mao he'll switch from "cool" to "fire" or "wind".

... Yes.
Mao is my magic caster.
It kinda seems weird to use a staff on him now that I've seen how he acts with a sword, but I can't help it! He's definitively amazing as a sword user and a magic user. He's my highest leveled character and I'M NOT TRYING TO LEVEL HIM. I'm trying to level up Almaz and my healers so I can unlock archers! Uwah, this is going to be a bit difficult~

I might have to modify my party more than I thought. Usually I have Beatrix be a master and give her mage pupils, but I can't do that in this game. It seems that even if they're in the same committee - you can't perm. learn your members skills. Sure, Mao can cast fire with his fire skull boy next to him, but that's it! He doesn't earn exp to reach level 1. How frustrating...

Anyway, Almaz and Finnegan are my sword users.

Ah~ I do love the Homeroom though. It's so fun to talk to your characters and see what's on their mind. Almaz keeps complaining that his stomach hurts (or he'll find a lucky coin on the ground. Honey, I don't think any coin you find has been lucky so far.)

One of my thief girls asked me if she could steal Mao's heart. XD; SORRY that's -. .. that's chapter 2!

Both Disgaea games had 13 chapters, this isn't fair!

Character Ending - Chapter 2

When you fight Raspberyl in this chapter, you have a chance of getting a game over. If you lose to her, you get a special ending in which she takes Almaz (Mao's vassal) from Mao and the game ends with a history of the School and what happens with Raspberyl in charge (?). It's very frightening, I saw things that spoke of tomato juice and... I don't want to imagine the evils she creates!

That's about it. It also shows all of the people who've worked on the game in English. Basically, there's no cameos listed other than the ones on the cover. Perhaps there's more but they're not voiced? I don't really know... anyway, I'm a little 'blah' that Ash isn't in the game-- his voice actor is Almaz! That's really not fair~

Oh well, that's something we can't change.
I like how there's English names for everyone already!
Mister Big Star~ Salvatore the Magnificent! Remember, Mister is a part of Big Star's name!

Though, I really don't agree on the translations for Asuka and Kyoko. It's like they ran those through a quick translator... everyone else's name is fine though. Mr. Champloo, Almaz, Mao, Raspberyl~ I'm glad they're not funky.

Anyway, seeing poor Almaz getting kidnapped by Raspberyl was quite enjoyable.

Chapter 2 has ... really sad music. I don't- I felt really sad in the ココロ銀行　(Heart Bank). I do like the NPC that takes you there, though. Mostly because her name is almost the same as my own. (Angelina ---> Angelica !? Make it happen, NISAmerica!)

A-Anyway. Here are my thoughts on it.

Inside of Mao's heart, Almaz finds and picks up one of Mao's memories. Mao yells at him for doing so, but suddenly they're transported to a memory in which Mao and Raspberyl talk. Mao seems agitated at her because she wants to become a delinquent, Raspberyl seems to enjoy it though. She's trying to be nice, but she knows she's grating on Mao's nerves. She doesn't think it's cool to just be an honor student, I believe. I get the feeling that Raspberyl wants to be a demon in her own away, I love her for it. She is rather unique, don't you think?

Almaz makes a comment that she's a good person (demon). Mao scoffs at this and- suddenly! Raspberyl appears out of no where and wants to take Almaz off of Mao's hands. Almaz hesitates and tells her not to worry while Mao yells that Almaz isn't even a real hero. He's a fake! Raspberyl kind of scoffs at this and -still- wants to take Almaz off of his hands, so battle begins! Raspberyl vs. Mao for the grand prize! (Almaz).

Hilarity.

If you defeat her, you'll progress.
If you lose, you'll get one of the endings. Raspberyl's Ending.

Aha. I quite enjoyed it.

I do wish to talk about the Soundtrack a little. I do believe this game has the best soundtrack out of all the Nippon Ichi titles. I'm enjoying it immensely. Do be aware I will rip it once I get a chance to. So look out for it!

Disgaea 3 Play Thoughts

Still watching videos at NicoVideo. The story is easy to understand so far, which makes me happy...

Thoughts on Episode 1; Please Highlight - might contain slight spoilers.
As we all know, Disgaea 3 was officially released today in Japan. Thanks to the efforts of a NicoVideo account owner, we're able to get a glimpse of the first chapter while waiting for our copies to arrive stateside. What do I think about it so far? This is actually a really tough question, I'm - in all honesty, not too sure what to think for myself.

I am enjoying the game greatly. Even by just watching, I really enjoy Mao and Almaz's interractions so far. Almaz interrupting the battle between Raspberyl and Mao because that's his job as a hero... his voice acting is exactly like Ash, if only for his much higher pitched screams and squeaks. He's quite a bit of a coward, but he does mean well. He's always thinking of his princess and how he'll do anything for her sake, he's very cute.

Jiiya seems like a sort of enigma so far. He's very to the point and very much proud of Mao.

Mao... Mao. I admit, while Almaz will be the "star" character to me (I really like him for many reasons), Mao is slowly growing to be a very lovable character. He's extremely adorable in his mood swings and his fears. The reason he wants to kill his dad... is interesting. Poor Almaz, he wasn't expecting something like that... to be Mao's servant and - Mao-sama. Ahaa. I still can't get over that Almaz must call him that. That's so interesting. Mao doesn't seem to really think things through it seems. He's quite easily excitable... but so is Almaz. What a strange hero combination those two make. Where will things go from here? I do not know~

I think the commercial breaks are a cute touch. How wonderfully silly, it really does feel like we're watching an anime- not playing a game.

I enjoy how fluid Mao's sprite is. He stomps his feet, points out at Raspberyl, yells, and is overall just a very animated character. Almaz- Almaz makes me laugh, he thinks he's lucky for finding a coin... oh, how terrible his luck truly is...

So far, I deeply enjoy the scenes. My understanding of them is subpar and somewhat limited, but I understand the situations that are going on. The added touches to gameplay really make the game interesting looking and - when I get my copy - fun.

I only hope the story in Makai Senki Disgaea 3 continues to impress me.

Thoughts : [Light Spoilers?]

Mao is late for school, but he's almost done reading his Legend of the Hero comicbook. He seems really into it, until he slams it down and yells that he finally understands. He wants to become a hero in order to defeat his old man. The prinnies are startled by this, they just came in to tell their young master (bo-chama!) that he's late for class ... yet I somehow get the feeling that's nothing new.

Jiiya seems to be quite happy with Mao's reasoning and decides to help. You go, Jiiya! You go! Before Mao's able to run off and do anything, though- Jiiya makes sure he has henchmen to help him. All good students should be ready for anything, of course.

Jiiya's voice completely took me by surprise. I certainly wasn't expecting that level of pitch when I pictured Jiiya. He's quite comical.

Mao's voice, on the other hand... wow. I'm not sure what to say, his voice actor definitively has "obsessive" down to a notch. His Haa-Haa (which sounds more like a Aah-- haaaah ) is definitively something I'll remember well. Honestly, it sounds like Mao gets a little too excited about information pertaining to heroes. That's not... exactly a good thing. (Justice...! LOVEEEE....!!! No, Mao. Honey- stop. You'll give the neighbors bad ideas.)

I absolutely love the base theme. Is that Mao singing? It certainly sounds like his voice actor. I can't wait to see more scenes, my copy of the game itself won't arrive for a while, so I'll do my best to wait patiently.

(Jiiya is level 100. Machiko-sensei is level 500. Wow, I guess she's a teacher for a reason.)

HIGHLIGHT FOR POSSIBLE SPOILERS :
NicoVideo members think that Jiiya will be the final boss. HAHA. I seriously think Jiiya is somehow "evil", I'm not sure why - perhaps it's the ingrained thought that "The Butler Did It". Perhaps I've been reading too much Alfred Hitchcock? That might be a case... but he does seem sort of suspicious, do you not agree?

There's a couple of interesting notes to be taken about this article. For one, it features four people who have played the game and how they rank some of the starting classes. All players enjoyed using Mao, and only one player seemed to dislike using Almaz. Both are ranked S on average.

(It seems that no one wants to use male healers... ah, the fate of male healers will forever be known as such... )

My favorite part of this article is the beginning battle of the game.
Almaz interrupts an argument between Mao and Raspberyl, like any good hero should-... but he's only level 1.

Rozalin I could understand being level one.
But you, Almaz? Did you ever pick up a sword before going to the Netherworld?!

I... sigh. Anyway, he's a neutral character in the battle, but you're free to whack him upside the head to show him who's boss.

Two days left! How exciting. Not only is Disgaea 3 coming out, but so is Devil May Cry 4 and Super Smash Brothers Brawl in Japan! That's- that's a pretty scary line-up. Could this be the year of the Playstation 3? Who knows, who knows.

Dengeki Playstation Vol. 409 Scans

Nenena @ Livejournal was gracious enough to scan in the 20 Page MEGA VOLUME of Makai Senki Disgaea 3 in Dengeki Playstation. This update features synopsis for the game, general battle information, and the starting classes/monsters you get. This is a sort of mini guide for the game once it comes out, to get fans ready! ♥

There's even a Miss Marshmallow contest for Disgaea 3! The nicest pair of jugs was awarded to Princess Sapphire Rhodonite, I don't think she quite enjoys that, Jiiya...

New summons and spells are shown. Both Mao and Almaz have their own "summons". Almaz calls for the power of his Goddess in order to save the day! (Help Us, Goddess! is the name of the skill.) Mao calls upon ... I'm not even sure how to translate this... Vaza Aiglun (?) for his summon.

As you can tell from the above image, Laharl and co make their appearance and they make sure everyone knows of it. The "King of Overlords" (as he's referred to here), Laharl, has never missed an appointment to cameo! What adventures await him as he confronts Mao? We'll see!

New Dungeon : Academy World

Dengeki Online features a new article today. Disgaea 3's introduction to the Academy World and screenshot explanations.

Much like the Item World, Academy World allows you to improve the abilities of your characters. Whether it's speed, attack, throw, critical rate... there's quite a list of things you can improve for a character. Each ability is a ten-floor dungeon you must go down. (Unlike the Item World, you can not leave in the middle of this dungeon.)

You must speak to the Afro!Prinny to ender the Academy World.
(...Jesus Christ, from the screenshot it shows Mao has 130% in both ATK and INT. As well as 120% in SP. )

Huh. Mystery Gates are apparently now MYSTERY ~*~*~CLASSROOMS~*~*~ that you do... mysterious things in. Hmn.

Ah, it seems to also show that Male Archers have a much better ATK modifier than Female Archers. Their dex still is pretty darn hefty, though.

Another portion of the update discusses character make (which is pretty much the same from the previous two games. The only update is the classroom setting, the new classes, and the desks you get from their level of ability. Uh. Oh, and they talk now! Go Generics!)

Depending on how often you use a skill, it will get stronger but also cost more SP. This is the same as in the previous games. It seems you can purchase MAbilities in order to help your skills improve.

Mao asks Adell why he's trying to defeat the local overlord, which ensues into a series of questions and finally the realization that Adell has no idea what a "school" is. Oh my.

Today's topic is about MAbilities (魔ビリティー) and their use in Disgaea 3. What is a MAbility, you ask? A MAbility is basically an upgrade from Disgaea 2's Class-centric skill. You remember how Rozalin boosts the stats of all the men surrounding her and how female ninjas will go twice in a row if their HP is low?

Well, now you can swap, shop, and drop these abilities and more! These are some examples of MAbilities. From looking at the screenshots, it seems like you can equip more than three at a time.

Wild Cry (Male Warrior) - I believe that if an enemy is next to your character, you receive 20% more power when you attack.

Assault Attack (Female Warrior) - ...God this involves math. I don't know if I can explain this well, Your damage goes up Removing Mass x 10 %. Whatever that means.

Shield Mastery - 50% Damage Reduction
Heal Gain - Gain HP per round?
Fire Body - Elemental Change? Immunity?
Wind Body - Elemental Change? Immunity?
Ice Body - Elemental Change? Immunity?
Star Body - Elemental Change? Immunity?
Poison Prevention - Immunity to Poison? (what else could it be...)
Sleep Prevention - Immunity to Sleep? (ditto)
Death Whisper - Carried by the Shinigami class (Chernobog here), this skill has the ability to cast instant death if a monster's SP is below 25%
Ethereal Protection - Carried by Holy Dragons, Depending on the height of your current tile (shown as DM on the screen) you get 1% more attack. (25 DM = 25%)

What can I say about this update? I'm looking forward to Ishikawa Hideki's art, it's very refreshing and looks wonderful. I do enjoy the cut ins they've shown so far of his illustrations. Nekosaberrr~ Nya~

New classes, as stated earlier. Archer and Gunner~! I'm def. looking forward to using male archers as well as female archers. Female gunners are too cute to not use, but I have a tendency to ignore gunning classes. Let hope I don't do that this time.

Salvatore seems to be a Robot Anime Fan. That's... that's somehow really, really cute! She looks very serious in all of the screenshots and hates to be joked around with, but she does seem to have a softer side. I think I might like her character. I already know I like Big Star-Sama because he's absolutely ridiculous in every sense of the word.

This update features information on individual class MA-Bilities, as well as information on reincarnation and main characters. Though it's somewhat of a small update, the new content really makes me happy.

... My favorite part of this update? It really is Almaz's facial portraits. I think he's absolutely adorable.

I'm eagerly looking forward to this update. It's posted in this month's Dengeki Playstation (released 12/14). It features new classes, new information on mabilities and transmigration, as well as new event information. It seems Disgaea 3 will be rather story heavy. I do hope so, that makes me rather happy if its true.

GAMEPLAY AND MISC INFORMATION

Since monsters join the party too, they wanted to make them more useful, so N1 concentrated a bit on that and monsters also have skills.

There's a new skill system where you can learn and equip different skills; since there's a limit to the amount of skills you can have at a time, they want the player to try out different combinations. When you pick up a monster and use it as a weapon, that character acquires the monster's skills, too. You can also pick up items on the field and use them as weapons, but they note that you can still buy and equip stuff ahead of time.

Geo Panels are giant cubes in this game. You can pick up and rearrange blocks in order go create crossways or bridges to get across. Throwing isn't the only option to get around now.

Prinnies, Eringa, saber kitties, chefs, and merchants (?) make a return in Disgaea 3. Who knows what wonderful cameos will be in this game! (haaaah.)

Two-level Toss
After forming a tower, the person at the bottom can execute the THROW command (投げる;) to toss the person at the top of the tower to higher heights! Remember that in the old games, using the THROW command with a tower would throw the entire upper tower instead of just the person at the top.

Throwing Receive
If you toss a character to an ALLY character, that ally could catch your tossed ally and throw them an few extra spaces based on their direction. This also works on Monsters, as in they can throw in this manner.

Demon Change
Monsters can now morph into weapons in which a partner can use to execute a strong technical attack. To do this, you must equip a certain demon ability to that monster. Example, for Werecat, you could equip "Double Lock On" for partner to execute "Screw Claw" attack.

One can incorporate a maximum of two special augmentation abilities to improve your character's performance in battle, or allow Monster creatures to execute Demon Change skills with a partner. Basically this implement makes maxing out stats 1 step more complicated.

Even as a joke, the only son of the chairman of Maritsu Evil Academy, that charmain also being the Demon Lord, saying he would become a "hero" would be a serious affair.

Nippon Ichi Software's popular Simulation RPG "Makai Senki Disgaea" series' 3rd outing, "Makai Senki Disgaea 3" (hereafter "3").
As we've introduced before, many characters have been remodeled for "3". Also, lots of little details are in it to improve and add to the systems.
In this, our 3rd piece about the game, we'll be looking at the stage for this game, "Maritsu Evil Academy"; new characters; and a follow-up report on the battle system, which we introduced last time!

The protagonist, Mao, is with his childhood friend and the school's number one delinquent (our idea of a delinquent is a Netherworld honor student) Raspberyl, and the hero otaku + self-styled hero Almaz; truly, a group of characters each with their own peculiarities.

The opening for "3" is behind handled by the animation company ufotable, and the high quality is noticeable at a glance. Of course, all of the main characters are in the movie, and even generic characters and secret characters appear. Characters dance in time to the music, and there's bold movement in the high quality animations.
And now, let's introduce a character who also appears in that movie, a human princess, Sapphire.

The "Evil Academy" that Mao and the others attend serves as your base between the story and battle sections. In Mao's classroom, you can make ally unit characters and perform various activities related to training.
To go to the classroom, talk to the class rep standing near the two Prinny statues. Inside the classroom you'll find your allied characters, a bunch of desks, your homeroom teacher who can cause events to occur; it's very lively. Now, let's explain three systems that you can use here to train your allies: "Changing Seats", "Homeroom Teacher", and "Committee Meetings".

Changing Seats
Characters sitting in the seats in the classroom can easily perform "Cooperative Attacks" during battle. "Cooperative Attacks" are a special attack system in which, when a character attacks, adjacent allies have a certain probability of joining in the attack for big damage. Of course, the more often "Cooperative Attacks" go off, the more advantage it'll give you in battle, so when you have characters that you want to cooperate with each other, you can change their seats to put them next to each other.

Homeroom Teacher
You can choose your homeroom teacher from among a number of characters. Teachers have different education objectives, like focusing on ATK or focusing on INT, so when you level up, you'll see an effect based on their focus. In other words, when you level up, you'll get a bonus to the appropriate stat. Also, if you use the "PA Mike" item during battle, you can summon your homeroom teacher to help you.

委員会
Committees
In the school, there are various officials and committees, such as the Public Morals Committee and the Shoemaker, and you can get different sorts of bonuses by having your allies belong to such groups. For instance, the representative of a certain area, if standing next to a fellow member, can use the magic that that member knows. Also, if you have a character attached to the "Association of Girls with Glasses", glasses will become available in the Armor Room; various items and abilities can be obtained in this way.

If you select "Homeroom" in the classroom, you'll go to the "Student Council". The "Student Council" is similar to the "Dark Assembly" of previous games; items on the agenda will be voted on, you can create generic units, and you can establish committees and officials. Also, to go to extra dungeons with strong enemies that aren't related to the main story, you'll need the approval of the Student Council.
At the Student Council, you start by choosing the agenda with the character who's attending. Decisions are on a point system: if the yes votes outnumber the no votes, the item on the agenda is approved. Also, you can give bribes to the Student Council members before the voting. Since the more powerful members' votes are worth more points, it's necessary to think about whom you'll give your bribes to.
Additionally, if the council rejects your proposal, you can attempt to "Persuade by Force". If you choose this, you must fight all of the council members who voted No; if you defeat them all, you will have passed the item forcibly.

We'd like to introduce the illustrations for the Martial Artist (Male) and Martial Artist (Female), two of types of generic characters you can create at the Student Council. There are other types of character, such as Warriors, Mages, Ninjas, and Archers, as well; the number of character types available will exceed the 98 of the previous game.

Places to buy items that are indispensable in battle, such as weapons and armor. Become a regular customer and you'll be able to have the Student Council recognize this, making stronger weapons and armor available.
Each character can equip up to 1 weapon and 3 pieces of armor. Humanoid characters have their choice of 7 weapon types: fist, sword, spear, axe, bow, gun, and staff. Monster-type character have their choice of 2 types of monster weapons.

School Infirmary
You can recover from damage you received in battle and negative battle status effects at the School Infirmary. However, it costs money to be healed, and the price will depend on the amount of damage and character levels. Also, based on how much you've spent here, you can get gifts that aren't available at the Weapon or Armor rooms.

Skill Swap Room
At the Skill Swap Room, you can purchase "Mabilities", special abilities that are added to characters, as well as buying and strengthening special abilities for weapons. In addition to their own inherent Mability, each character can equip one additional Mability, and you can change what they have equipped here. To purchase them, you use "Mana" which you get by defeating enemies in battle. Powerful special moves require large amounts of Mana to purchase.

Mao
Age : 1578
Voice Actor : Hirata Hiromi

Description : an Honor Student at a Private (and Wicked!) Netherworld School. He is the elite of the elite, he skips class, doesn't do homework, and is an overall bad boy. His design is reminiscent of "Mad Scientist". When he sees something that can be a potential experimental subject, his glasses fog up and he goes in to "Glasses Mode". He gets excited easily. His goal is to study Heroes so he can beat his father, an Overlord, and take his title. Don't assume he loves humans or heroes, though. It's quite the opposite, he only cares about learning to beat his old man.

He learned about Heroes beating Overlords from studying countless hours Video Games.

Mao has a red crescent moon scar on his forehead. For what reasons, we do not know. Also noting, his name is probably a play off 魔王 (maou) the Japanese word for Overlord.

Mao is a 'Gianist' which is according to JP Wikipedia a made-up word based on the philosophy of a villain in Doraemon named Gian. This is "what's yours is mine and what's mine is mine". The word is ジャイアニズム（Gianism).

Mao's hobbies are mischief and evil research such as experimentation on people, he likes manga and games, he dislikes heroes, humans, the believing heart and such words as 'friendship' and 'companions'. His future ambition is to become a mighty overlord due to his research. And he has an evilness rating of 1,800,000.

Description: "Self Proclaimed Hero" He goes to the Netherworld in order to beat up an Overlord because that's just what heroes* do. He wants to be a hero* in order to impress the human princess he has a crush on. Instead, he runs into Mao, Mao STEALS his Hero* title and Almaz is forced to be his vassal. As his vassal, Almaz tutors Mao privately on how to be a proper and good hero*. By becoming Mao's vassal, Mao saves him from turning into a demon, apparently. (Unclear on this matter.) Edit- See Speech Pattern information.

Almaz is teased and has pranks pulled on him by Mao a lot, probably because Mao doesn't particularly like humans or heroes*. Almaz is also considered a "Hero Otaku" because he really, really loves heroes. Finally, "Almaz" means "Diamond" in Russian.

Default Title : Hero*

*NOTE : Hero can also be translated as "Brave" like Phantom Brave. Scarlet the Brave It's just a title meaning "Hero" in all respects of the word. I do not know how NISAmerica will finally translate this title.

Almaz is a hero otaku, he knows everything there needs to know about heroes. He seems very passionate about them, but he's not a very good one in the making. He likes a princess (oh ho, boyish crush), and admires a Super Hero. On the other hand, he dislikes demons because they do stuff like kidnap his princess and that makes him very upset. He wishes to become a great hero like the Super Hero so he can protect his princess from being kidnapped.

(I do secretly hope it's Gordon that's the Super Hero. Haha.)

Sub Characters

Jiiya - ( Negaduck ;_; ) I don't know too much about him, he seems to be a sort of servant for Mao. Jiiya seems to have a trick device for every occasion (there's a 'Hero Radar' described in one screenshot) but they aren't actually all that useful. However, it seems that his Demon Power or whatever may actually be quite a bit stronger than Mao's. (So he has secrets..)

There's not much to Jiiya it seems, he's known to cover his failures by laughing them off... his interests and desires are... interesting. He wishes to help Mao grow up to be a great Overlord, dislikes people who get in the way of that, and his future goal is to see Mao become an Overlord.
