[ CHARACTERS ]

This is information I've compiled about the characters in this game.
Some of this information, though checked, might still contain inaccuracies. Lets hope not. I originally post this on Akai Tsuki Forums.

Mao
Age : 1578
Voice Actor : Hirata Hiromi

Description : an Honor Student at a Private (and Wicked!) Netherworld School. He is the elite of the elite, he skips class, doesn't do homework, and is an overall bad boy. His design is reminiscent of "Mad Scientist". When he sees something that can be a potential experimental subject, his glasses fog up and he goes in to "Glasses Mode". He gets excited easily. His goal is to study Heroes so he can beat his father, an Overlord, and take his title. Don't assume he loves humans or heroes, though. It's quite the opposite, he only cares about learning to beat his old man.

He learned about Heroes beating Overlords from studying countless hours Video Games.

Mao has a red crescent moon scar on his forehead. For what reasons, we do not know. Also noting, his name is probably a play off 魔王 (maou) the Japanese word for Overlord.

From Disgaea 3's JPN Site -- **Added 9/21** :
Mao is a 'Gianist' which is according to JP Wikipedia a made-up word based on the philosophy of a villain in Doraemon named Gian. This is "what's yours is mine and what's mine is mine". The word is ジャイアニズム（Gianism).

Mao's hobbies are mischief and evil research such as experimentation on people, he likes manga and games, he dislikes heroes, humans, the believing heart and such words as 'friendship' and 'companions'. His future ambition is to become a mighty overlord due to his research. And he has an evilness rating of 1,800,000.

On Stealing the Hero Title **Added 11/27**
Because Mao stole Almaz's "hero" title, it is slowly manifesting within him. His speech is turning much more normal and "human like". How polite will his speech turn is unknown.

Raspberyl
Age : 1578
Voice Actor : Saitou Chiwa

Description : Childhood friend of Mao. She's considered a "delinquent" because she does her homework, volunteers, goes to class early, and is an overall wonderful student. Of course, in the Netherworld this is BAD. They don't want that when you go to school! She's very cute and does her work all the time. haha.

From Disgaea 3's JPN Site -- **Added 9/21**

Raspberyl usually goes by the name of "Beryl". Her interests involve delinquent like activities, volunteering, collecting Hellmarks (demerits?), among other things. She's basically doing good things in order to be bad, it seems. She dislikes acting uncool and her dreams for the future involve becoming the Legendary Delinquent (a cool demon.). How cute.

Almaz von Almadine Adamant
Age : 18
Voice Actor : Shimono Hiro

Description: "Self Proclaimed Hero" He goes to the Netherworld in order to beat up an Overlord because that's just what heroes* do. He wants to be a hero* in order to impress the human princess he has a crush on. Instead, he runs into Mao, Mao STEALS his Hero* title and Almaz is forced to be his vassal. As his vassal, Almaz tutors Mao privately on how to be a proper and good hero*. By becoming Mao's vassal, Mao saves him from turning into a demon, apparently. (Unclear on this matter.) Edit- See Speech Pattern information.

Almaz is teased and has pranks pulled on him by Mao a lot, probably because Mao doesn't particularly like humans or heroes*. Almaz is also considered a "Hero Otaku" because he really, really loves heroes. Finally, "Almaz" means "Diamond" in Russian.

Default Title : Hero*

*NOTE : Hero can also be translated as "Brave" like Phantom Brave. Scarlet the Brave It's just a title meaning "Hero" in all respects of the word. I do not know how NISAmerica will finally translate this title.

*NOTE THE SECOND : I don't know how relevant it is, but Almaz uses semi-polite Japanese. Well, much more polite than demons would, anyway. **EDIT 11/27** Due to Mao stealing his title, Almaz's speech is being affected. He will slowly turn into a demon as the game progresses. He has 666 hours left before fully becoming a demon. Once you are a demon, you can never go back to being a human.

Almaz is a hero otaku, he knows everything there needs to know about heroes. He seems very passionate about them, but he's not a very good one in the making. He likes a princess (oh ho, boyish crush), and admires a Super Hero. On the other hand, he dislikes demons because they do stuff like kidnap his princess and that makes him very upset. He wishes to become a great hero like the Super Hero so he can protect his princess from being kidnapped.

(I do secretly hope it's Gordon that's the Super Hero. Haha.)

**ADDED 11/27** In-Depth Look at Almaz

The hero "Almaz".

That's right. Naturally, he isn't a normal hero.
Or rather, it's just ridiculous. He isn't even a hero.
He's a "self-styled hero".
He's what people would call a "hero otaku".

To put it simply, he's someone who idolizes heroes.

That's fine, you say?
"Someone chasing after their dream is stronger than someone who's reached their dream", you say?

That's right!
He's not completely useless, a coward, and quick to run away!
He also has a lot of good parts to him!
Do you know his real name?
"Almaz von Almandine Adamant"
Even in Disgaea, it's top-level for "name length".
Of course, there's no way that this is the first time the person introducing Almaz right now has heard his full name.
Of course, there's no way this is the first time that person has really reflected on Almaz's name word by word.

He's not a hero of a military group, but a hero of knowledge.
The amount of his knowledge is amazing. Is it because his name is long?
He has incredible knowledge regarding heroes, as expected of an otaku; or rather, a self-styled hero!
He'd probably get a perfect score on a nationwide hero test.
Ah! Since he knows a lot about heroes, doesn't that mean he'd have a lot to talk about with Mao, who's researching heroes?
Well, well, that's an interesting thought......

And when it's important, he does his best.
There's something that he refuses to give up, and he'll hold on to it desperately.

That Almaz will be visited by all sorts of calamities.

Princess Sapphire Rhodonite

Voice Actor : Hasegawa Akiko

Description : The one whom Almaz adores, she is the princess of a kingdom in the human world.
She really loves cute things, but the truth is that she's a "killing machine" that rivals demons.
She cannot cry at sad things, and there is a dark shadow in the depths of her heart.


These days, you see lots of different types of princess, including a bunch of strong ones.
But that's just the beginning.
Princess Sapphire is a "natural killing machine".
It's innate, so there's no way to take it from her.
Her entire country is protected by her remarkable ability; that is to say, one person is able to defend the entire country.

Her dream is to be "the strongest being in history".
For normal people, even imagining how to do this is probably impossible, but this 17-year-old dreams of standing at the peak of all things that exist in this world ☆

This princess doesn't wait around.

Rather, she'll go out hunting her enemy.

The princess doesn't run away.
But her enemies flee like scared rabbits.
She likes to use a move called "Hell Thrust".
With one thrust, she'll guide you to the first block of hell.
Being personally guided by a princess, how wonderful~

Even though the princess is like that, she's still a girl.
There's that side to her, too, so don't worry, those of you who idealize princesses.
Princess Sapphire really likes cute things.
She's indiscriminate towards all cute things.
That reminds me, didn't I say that that one demon is pretty cute?
She's in a lot of danger, huh.
No, no, it's okay.
There's no way she'd hug someone so hard their bones would break.

The princess does not know tears.
She was born this way and has never cried.
Does she just not have tears, or is it because of her strength...?
She doesn't even know why, herself.
Is it sad to have tears flow?
Is it happy to not have tears flow?
As far as the princess is concerned------

If you hear rumors that some Demon Lord [Overlord] was overthrown, she was the one who did that.

Age : 2764
Voice Actor : Suzuki Chihiro

Description :
The charismatic leader of the Level 2 Students who loves his subordinates.
The "-sama" is part of his real name. He has an elegant bearing overflowing with refinement, but he actually has a strong belief as a leader.

Likes: Manly men. Commanding the Level 2 students as their leader. The "-sama" in his name.
Dislikes: Unmanly men. Being called first on a list arranged by kanji.
Dream for the future: Everyone being Level 2 students

No idea on his stat ratio yet.

First-Rate Salvatore
Age: 2666 years
Voice Actress: Yamada Miho

A Third Level student and one of the legendary Ten Gentlemen. She's a woman, but she's a gentleman. She's a military type of unparalleled ruthlessness, but she's not attached to any army. She's always giving out absurd orders, and respects opponents that are stronger than herself.

Hobbies: Giving orders. Forcing her subordinates to do harsh training.
Dislikes: Jokes. Vulgar conduct.
Dream for the future: To fight every day

Sub Characters

Jiiya - ( Negaduck ;_; ) I don't know too much about him, he seems to be a sort of servant for Mao. Jiiya seems to have a trick device for every occasion (there's a 'Hero Radar' described in one screenshot) but they aren't actually all that useful. However, it seems that his Demon Power or whatever may actually be quite a bit stronger than Mao's. (So he has secrets..)

There's not much to Jiiya it seems, he's known to cover his failures by laughing them off... his interests and desires are... interesting. He wishes to help Mao grow up to be a great Overlord, dislikes people who get in the way of that, and his future goal is to see Mao become an Overlord.
